Bye For Now

Image
I have never blogged before this class. I have heard about blogs can’t really say I ever even read one. This sociology class has given me a new platform to share my thoughts. I really found blogging to be quite informative because I can blog and express my feelings about issues pertaining to social inequalities. Blogging  are issue-based, which means that these blogs also provide information to sway people's thinking in a certain direction. I found the articles, games and videos very interesting it changed the way I viewed many social inequalities that many face despite color. I also have become more aware of issues that were impacting many just because of the place you lived. Many of these social inequalities were just based off the unequal distribution of resources. I also like the fact that I could get feedback from my classmates this in return allowed me to know how other people felt about topics I felt passionate about. After reading other people’s blogs one th...

Is There Help?

I listened carefully to Kristin Seefeldt and she does give alot of options to ways we can eliminate poverty. But what she wants are mere suggestions to the problem and no real ways of implementing change. The republicans are in control of office and even though they too have suggestions that seem more practical then hers its still alot of talk. Its real ironic that women have very different views about the workforce which they felt wouldn't lead to upward mobility. Ways of not feeling abandoned by a safety net. We must also keep in mind that everyone don't share the same views and that programs like TANF and unemployment are temporary and are supposed to be used to get back on ones feet there are those that live and depend on the system and are very comfortable taking advantage of programs that are only there for temporary aid. When a policy is made it hurts those trying more than it does the ones that aren't. Is there a fix for that. Yes, TANF should be easily accessibl...

Republican Party Speaks with Sense

As for much of my life I have always believed that the Republican Party was only invested in keeping the poor poor and the rich rich. Not that I change my beliefs about them this Presidential forum just opened my eyes to the common views that are shared between both political parties. As I listened to all speakers I would like to say that they all make some relevant points. Poverty is a problem that doesn’t just affect the one place but communities all around the world. Communities must work together to find solutions to making better neighborhoods as said by Governor Nikki Haley.  I like when she said until we find a solution quitting is not the solution.  I agree that poverty does deal with the quiet voices and it is true that if you improve education than all things improve. I also agree that technology should be in every school and where you live shouldn’t determine what your school can provide to you. I also am pleased that there is a plan in South Carolina to pay fo...

Juvenile Justice

When we talk about juvenile justice there are many angles we can look at. Is the legal system fair to minors and/or minorities, i truly have to say hell no. I feel as though the justice system that is supposed to be used as a platform for rehabilitation is just breeding grounds for delinquents with the same deviant ways to meet and become more deviant. I think that it is sad that when you go through African American communities that you see the lack of guidance that is causing the criminal justice system to act as parents and discipline someones child because their parent had to work in order   to pay bills and now their child done feel in the traps of being a product of the negative atmosphere and learns how to appreciate fast money over a working dollar. I see why sociologist study these different ethnic groups because their is a lot of knowledge that one can obtain by simply looking at  the  struggles,They affect Juveniles but also the African American community...

Where We Stand

We may never realize that our socioeconomic status determines how we view the world. The way we look at things stems from the world around us and the role we play. Why I say one may never realize it is because sometimes we tend to only see what we are surrounded by and never look outside the box. The things we may look at and think of as normal may not be considered normal to someone else somewhere else. We realize that money makes the world go round but we may overlook to what extent that that is true. its funny that you can take 5 people or as many as you like and show them a criminal act in progress and there will be 5 separate descriptions of what was seen. A man that robs a store for a loaf of bread is still a thief but depending on where you stand you may be able to disregard the crime and focus on the underlining fact which is he is hungry. It just amazes me that results of life is due to chance and opportunity, proper planning may not even help if you live in a place where ...

Reality Is

Behaviors of the poor are not the cause of their poverty, but a result of their poverty is true statements because the behaviors displayed because they are poor can stem from them not living on a daily budget or even being accountable for their spending. It is really sad that not having sufficient money can cause  a person to live day by day and disregard a budget in order to survive. I  believe this shows that behaviors of the poor are due to being extremely misguided. Playing spent has just brought reality to what a person can go through living with a limited income and not expecting the obstacles that can come out of nowhere while trying to live. There are so many obstacles a person can face in their daily lives when there is not enough money to cover their bare necessities. I guess I was able to manage playing this game because I’m aware of keeping proper records and living on a budget. I also kept in mind that living paycheck to paycheck is more aggravating then...
