Is There Help?
I listened carefully to Kristin Seefeldt and she does give alot of options to ways we can eliminate poverty. But what she wants are mere suggestions to the problem and no real ways of implementing change. The republicans are in control of office and even though they too have suggestions that seem more practical then hers its still alot of talk. Its real ironic that women have very different views about the workforce which they felt wouldn't lead to upward mobility.
Ways of not feeling abandoned by a safety net. We must also keep in mind that everyone don't share the same views and that programs like TANF and unemployment are temporary and are supposed to be used to get back on ones feet there are those that live and depend on the system and are very comfortable taking advantage of programs that are only there for temporary aid.
When a policy is made it hurts those trying more than it does the ones that aren't. Is there a fix for that. Yes, TANF should be easily accessible and so should unemployment but in the end who really gains and who loses.
Do I believe in Reform to the Safety net. I do believe no one should be deprived of their basic needs but I also believe help is help. And these safety nets should have time frames but should be extended on a case to case basis.
In conclusion I may get more from her book and her ideas were good but they just don't seem realistic enough for me.
